Project Overview
First Quantum wanted a downtime tracking system for their Sentinel and Enterprise sites in Zambia. Mipac was able to implement RtDuet remotely and provide training for the operations team. Mipac was able to easily add more assets to RtDuet over time, and this scalability combined with the ease of use of RtDuet made this project a success.
Background
Sentinel is a copper mine and concentrator located in Zambia owned by First Quantum Minerals.
Mipac had previously implemented RtDuet for First Quantum at the Cobre Panama project, and the team from Panama recommended Mipac and RtDuet to their colleagues at Sentinel when they were looking for a downtime tracking solution.
Enterprise is a Nickel plant that is adjacent to Sentinel, and once it was commissioned, the Sentinel team wanted to bring it into RtDuet as well.
Project Scope
Mipac installed and configured RtDuet for Sentinel, initially with 12 machine centres, or assets to track. Mipac and First Quantum held remote workshops to plan out the configuration of Machine Centres, Time Usage Model and the Reason Tree.
Mipac provided training and support to Sentinel once the system was installed and ready for rollout to their operations team.
After the initial project for Sentinel had finished, First Quantum approached Mipac about expanding RtDuet to also include Enterprise Nickel. With RtDuet it was easy to increase the license size to incorporate these new assets and then build out the configuration for them. As the team at Sentinel already understood RtDuet, the process of developing the configuration for Enterprise was very easy.
Project Challenges
Sentinel were using Excel to track their downtime but it was a very manual process and hard to control. They were thinking about using PI AF to build their own Downtime tracking system, but after discussions with Mipac we were able to explain the benefits of a commercial system like RtDuet:

Results
Mipac was able to implement RtDuet for Sentinel and then expand the installation for Enterprise also.
Sentinel and Enterprise can properly track their equipment downtime, standardising the definitions and reporting for both sites.
