Mipac’s wireless cell voltage monitoring system, CellView®, is to be installed as part of a significant tankhouse upgrade project at Mopani Copper Mines in Zambia.
The CellView® system makes a refining or electrowinning operation realise its full potential by detecting short circuits in a tankhouse and monitoring a cell’s overall health.
Mipac will deliver the design, configuration, supply and FAT for a complete CellView® system to monitor 1362 cells at the Mopani Tankhouse. The order also includes two ShortMeters™, Mipac’s short circuit detection monitors.
“The Mopani Tankhouse upgrade will be our largest CellView® installation,” Mipac Products Manager Tony Mathison says.
“CellView® is already installed in the copper refinery at Kazzinc’s Ust-Kamenogorsk New Metallurgy Project in Kazakhstan, and also at Vale’s Long Harbour Nickel Processing Plant in Canada.”
Mipac has collaborated with XT on Mopani projects for a number of years, notably delivering a plant-wide control system upgrade at Mopani’s Mufulira smelter.
“XT Technology considers cell voltage monitoring to be an important feature of its refinery technology offerings,” XT refinery Projects Manager Brendan O’Rourke says.
“With CellView® we have a proven system that is easy to install and maintain, and the custom-configured operator interface ensures refining cells with short circuits are readily identified.”
The CellView® system will be installed by mid-2014 with monitoring taking place immediately.
