A three-month trial to supply, configure and commission a historian for Australian water solutions provider and infrastructure company, SunWater, has seen Mipac engaged to expand the project across more than 70 sites.
The trial was conducted for SunWater’s Awoonga Callide SCADA System in Queensland. Located between Awoonga Dam south of Gladstone and east of Biloela, its pipeline is about 54 kilometres long, rises 528 metres, and includes three pump stations.
“Mipac [won the work because it] had the best responses to the required specification and had also calculated all the response times for SCADA. It also had the most competitive associated price,” SunWater Limited’s acting Manager – Asset Information Policy and Standards Michael Tomaszewski says.
“We are very happy with the results. [Mipac has created] a very easy interface for users based on Microsoft Excel so it will get the maximum usage from all the stakeholders across the company.”
The next phase of the project will see the historian rolled out to more than 70 networked sites across Queensland.
“This project will give greater transparency [of information] for [SunWater’s] executive and greater insights into asset performance and, therefore, better whole-of-life decisions for asset management,” Michael says.
Mipac’s Business Development Manager says Mipac’s design includes scalable interfaces so users can look at different aspects of a business and gain meaningful information.
“Clients can analyse information and determine benchmarks and KPIs,” Mipac says. “Asset managers can consider performance – how a pump is running, whether it is deteriorating or not. Costs can be predicted for maintenance or optimisation and better-informed decisions can be made.”
The rollout is expected to be complete by mid-2013.
